you must be shouting “already?” but it’s true, the holiday season will be upon us before we know it. halloween is just around the corner and soon we will be swapping pumpkins for turkeys and trees. and with the not-too-far-off holiday season, comes holiday cards. the time of year when you hunt for the perfect photo of your family or your kids or even pets to send to your friends and loved ones. it’s fun and festive, and in the digital age where we are constantly emailing and tweeting and facebooking, it’s such a wonderful departure from the norm. a thoughtful holiday card arriving in the mailbox - what’s not to love? each one is like a special treat and then, if you are like me, you put them on the fridge or the wall or a tree and it becomes a sanctuary of “look how much so and so has grown” or “what a gorgeous photo from so and so’s wedding” or “so and so’s new baby is adorable!”. the cards act as small windows into the lives and happenings of our family and friends. they are treasures, really.
so i say, it’s not too early to begin planning your holiday card. do you have a great summer photo? or will you wait for fall weather and snap a shot in the leaves? or in the snow? or do you skip the photo and send a card with a christmas letter? never! the only advice i get from my sweet husband is to stick with red and green so i’ll be hunting for something more traditional in style. what about you?
i’ve pulled together a few samples to get the snowball rolling...
